München. Die BMW-Tochter Mini schrumpft ihre Modellpalette und will sich mittelfristig nur noch auf fünf Kernmodelle konzentrieren. Diese sollen sich deutlich stärker als bislang voneinander abgrenzen, sagte BMW-Vorstand Peter Schwarzenbauer am Mittwoch bei einem Pressegespräch in München. Derzeit hat Mini sieben Modelle im Angebot. "Weniger ist mehr", verkündete Schwarzenbauer. Nur durch eine Reduzierung auf fünf sogenannte "Superheroes" könne die Kultmarke authentisch und außergewöhnlich bleiben. Schwarzenbauer bekräftigte zudem das Vorhaben, bald einen elektrischen Mini auf die Straße zu schicken, nannte aber keinen genauen Zeitplan.
Der BMW-Manager gab auch keine Details zu den fünf künftigen Mini-Modellen preis. Mini-Designchef Anders Warming beschrieb ein künftiges Stadtauto, ein Familienfahrzeug, einen Geländewagen, ein offenes Modell sowie einen "Joker", der sich noch in der Entwicklung befinde. Laut Mini-Markenchef Jochen Goller dauert die Umstellung auf die verkleinerte Modellpalette "mindestens bis 2020".
