München. BMW Motorsport hat am Donnerstag (16.1.) einen neuen Partner für die kommende DTM-Saison angekündigt – den österreichischen Getränkehersteller Red Bull. Beim Auftaktrennen in Hockenheim am 4. Mai wird der BMW M4 DTM von António Félix da Costa im Red-Bull-Design an den Start gehen. Félix da Costa ist seit 2012 Teil des Red-Bull-Junior-Teams und wird für das BMW-Team MTEK an der Seite von Timo Glock in der DTM antreten.
"Red Bull ist nicht nur wegen des Gewinns von vier Titeln hintereinander in der Formel-1-Weltmeisterschaft eine feste Größe im Motorsport und somit für uns ein sehr attraktiver Premiumpartner", erklärt BMWs Motorsportdirektor Jens Marquardt. "Uns ist ebenso wie Red Bull daran gelegen, die Entwicklung von António intensiv voranzutreiben und ihn zu einem noch besseren Rennfahrer zu machen." Der 22-jährige Félix da Costa kommt mit viel Erfahrung im Formelsport in die DTM. Über die Formel 3 Euroserie und die GP3-Meisterschaft rückte er 2012 ins Nachwuchsförderprogramm von Red Bull auf. 2013 belegte er in der Formula Renault 3.5 Series den dritten Rang in der Gesamtwertung und absolvierte Formel-1-Testfahrten für Red Bull Racing.Motorsport
