Mit der neuen "fun2drive"-App können Fehlermeldungen aus der Fahrzeugdiagnose-Schnittstelle ausgelesen und direkt an die Werkstatt übermittelt werden. Außerdem ist eine Suche nach der nächsten Bosch-Werkstatt integriert, es kann sogar direkt ein konkreter Wartungs- und Reperaturauftrag vereinbart werden.Darüber hinaus zeichnet die App interessante Reisedaten auf und zeigt eine Vielzahl aktueller Motordaten an. Das Smartphone wird damit zum erweiterten Bordcomputer. Die App kann für Android-Geräte im Google Play Store heruntergeladen werden. Eine Version für das Apple iPhone wird dem Automobilzulieferer zufolge später kommen.
Voraussetzung für das Auslesen der Fehlercodes ist eine OBD II kompatible Diagnoseschnittstelle. Benzinbetriebene Fahrzeuge von europäischen und asiatischen Herstellern sind seit dem Baujahr 2001 mit der OBD II-Schnittstelle ausgerüstet, Dieselmodelle haben sie seit 2004 an Bord. US-Fahrzeuge sind bereits seit 1996 damit ausgestattet. Für die Übertragung der OBD-Daten an das Smartphone ist ein Bluetoothfähiger OBD II-Adapter erforderlich, der im Handel erhältlich ist. Die Daten werden mittels Bluetooth auf die "fun2drive"-App übertragen.Neben der Diagnosefunktion bietet die App die Aufzeichnung von Reisedaten, wie beispielsweise die zurückgelegte Fahrstrecke, die Durchschnitts- und die Höchstgeschwindigkeit.
