Las Vegas. Garmin präsentiert das neue Infotainmentsystem "K2" und zeigt damit, wie das Autofahren schon bald aussehen könnte. "Unsere Infotainment-Plattform ist ein elegantes Glas-Cockpit, das als digitaler Hub fungiert. Es ermöglicht die Steuerung fahrtrelevanter Funktionen sowie aller Aspekte des digitalen Lebens – und zwar nahtlos und intuitiv, um die Ablenkung des Fahrers so gering wie möglich zu halten", sagt Matt Munn, Managing Director Automotive OEM bei Garmin. "Bei der Entwicklung der K2 nutzte Garmin seine umfangreiche Expertise in den Bereichen Oberflächendesign und Hardware-Integration. Wir bieten bereits voll integrierte digitale Cockpits für Luftfahrt- und Marine-OEMs an. Eine ähnlich umfassende Sicherheit und Integration auch für den Automobilbereich bereitzustellen, war somit ein logischer Schritt für uns."
Die innovative Plattform K2 wurde vom Automotive-OEM-Bereich von Garmin entworfen und entwickelt und stellt eine vollständig anpassbare und skalierbare Lösung dar, die die individuellen Anforderungen jedes Automobilherstellers erfüllt. Auf der diesjährigen CES in Las Vegas wird Garmin in einem abgetrennten Konferenzraum einzelne In-Vehicle-Demonstrationen für ausgewählte Branchenunternehmen und die Presse anbieten.Garmin sieht sich als Pionier der GPS-Navigation und Marktführer für mobile Navigationslösungen. Weil der Markt für portable Geräte durch die starke Konkurrenz des Smartphones erodiert und gleichzeitig der Einzug des Internet ins Auto große Wachstumschancen bietet, will der US-Konzern das Erstausrüstungsgeschäft mit der Automobilbranche forcieren und Anbieter von kompletten fest eingebauten Systemen werden. Im Jahr 2011 hat Garmin deshalb den Hamburger Konkurrenten Navigon übernommen, der bereits über ein Erstausrüstungsgeschäft verfügt. Gleichzeitig soll das ehemalige Navigon-Entwicklungszentrum in Würzburg verstärkt an europäischen Lösungen arbeiten. Im Gegensatz zu den Wettbewerbern verfügt Garmin über eine eigene Fertigung in Taiwan. Die neue Infotainment-Plattform bildet im Armaturenbrett des Fahrzeugs ein digitales Cockpit, welches Navigation und Fahrzeugdiagnose, Büro-Features, Kommunikation, Musik und Radio sowie Echtzeitinformationen aus dem Web zusammenfasst. Es soll eine sichere und intuitiv zu bedienende Benutzeroberfläche bieten und kombiniert dabei Connected/Internet-Features, digitale Anzeigen, Sprachsteuerung, Infrarot-Tasten und Smartphone-Integration.
Die Garmin K2 besteht aus einem handschuhfreundlichen Multitouch-Display im 10-Zoll-Format in der Mitte des Armaturenbretts und einer konfigurierbaren 12-Zoll-Instrumententafel hinter dem Lenkrad. Neben den Standardanzeigen werden auf der Instrumententafel Hinweise und Echtzeitdaten aus den Bereichen Navigation, Kommunikation und Audio sowie Fahrzeuginformationen dargestellt. Wenn beispielsweise eine SMS oder E-Mail eingeht, kann sich der Fahrer die Nachricht vom System vorlesen lassen und per Spracheingabe antworten. Die erweiterten Sprachsteuerungsfunktionen von Garmin erlauben es dem Anwender, mithilfe natürlicher, alltagssprachlicher Befehle mit der K2 zu interagieren und so Wetter- oder Verkehrsinformationen abzurufen, den Kalender zu konsultieren oder nach Adressen und POIs (Points of Interest) zu suchen. Auch die konfigurierbaren Infrarot-Tasten, die bei Annäherung der Hand automatisch reagieren, bieten Zugriff auf wichtige Informationen.Während der Fahrt zeigt das in der Mitte des Armaturenbretts angebrachte Multitouch-Infotainment-Display ausschließlich fahrtrelevante Informationen wie Navigations-, Musik- und Wetterdaten an. Bei stehendem Fahrzeug stellt es jedoch zusätzliche Features bereit, darunter ein Messaging-Center sowie Kalenderfunktionen. Garmin plant zudem die Integration von Sicherheitssensoren, die es dem Beifahrer ermöglichen, über das Display in der Mitte auf umfassende Features wie Social-Media- und Webfunktionen zuzugreifen. Gleichzeitig soll jedoch verhindert werden, dass der Fahrer Funktionen nutzen kann, die ihn möglicherweise ablenken würden.Die Plattform K2 wird mit einem Jacinto 5-Eco Prozessor und der OMAP 5 Plattform von Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) betrieben und sorgt mit einer Dual-Core ARM Cortex-A15 Foundation und mehreren Beschleunigern für leistungsstarke multimediale Infotainment-Features. Neben weiteren Vorteilen ermöglicht diese Ausstattung, 3D-Grafiken und Videos in hoher Auflösung auf mehreren Displays gleichzeitig anzuzeigen. Dadurch können Automobilhersteller beispielsweise auch Infotainment-Optionen für Fahrgäste auf dem Rücksitz integrieren. Die Benutzeroberfläche wurde in HTML5 entwickelt und lässt sich auf einfache Weise für eine bestimmte OEM-Marke anpassen.
Beim Fahren dreht sich alles um das Thema Mobilität – deshalb stehen Navigations-, Karten- und standortbezogene Dienste bei der K2 Infotainment-Plattform von Garmin im Mittelpunkt. Zur besseren Orientierung bietet das System integrierte 3D-Navigationsfunktionen mit Stadtmodellen und realistischen und ansprechenden 3D-Darstellungen von Gebäuden. Das System ist zudem in der Lage, Echtzeitinformationen zu Kraftstoffpreisen, aktueller Park- und Verkehrslage und Statistiken sowie Wettervorhersagen und Bilder von Verkehrskameras zu integrieren. Es warnt den Fahrer, wenn das Benzin zur Neige geht, und sucht automatisch nach Tankstellen entlang der Route. Anwender können außerdem To-do- und Merklisten erstellen und erhalten rechtzeitig eine Erinnerung des Systems, wenn sie sich dem jeweiligen Ort nähern. Will ein Fahrer beispielsweise etwas in einem Baumarkt besorgen, erinnert ihn das System daran, wenn er das nächste Mal in der Gegend ist. Um den Fahrer weiter zu entlasten, entwickelt Garmin derzeit zusätzliche Features, die verfügbare Informationen automatisch interpretieren. Durch die Koppelung von Kalender- und Navigationsfunktionen wüsste das System zum Beispiel, ob der Fahrer aufgrund des Verkehrsaufkommens zu spät zu einem Termin kommen wird, und könnte den Fahrer automatisch fragen, ob er die teilnehmenden Personen über seine Verspätung informieren möchte.Garmin K2 integriert wichtige Smartphone-Funktionen mithilfe einer Bridge-App, die eine Bluetooth-Verbindung zwischen dem Smartphone und dem Infotainment-System herstellt. Dank dieser App kann das System auf E-Mails und SMS, Kalender und andere Funktionen von Anwendern zugreifen und die jeweiligen Informationen auf fahrerfreundliche Weise auf der anpassbaren Oberfläche anzeigen. Die Bridge-App kann auch Informationen oder Funktionen von Apps anderer Anbieter integrieren, die der Anwender bereits auf seinem Smartphone nutzt, wie Radio, Musik und sonstige Inhalte. Anstatt Smartphone-Apps auf dem Armaturenbrett-Display jedoch auf dieselbe Weise wie auf dem Handy darzustellen, erlaubt das System von Garmin die Erstellung benutzerdefinierter Oberflächen sowie eine vollständige Integration in das System und ermöglicht so ein nahtloses und sicheres Anwendererlebnis.
Über ein Webportal lässt sich das K2-System von Garmin zudem vollständig an die Bedürfnisse des Fahrers anpassen. Über seinen Computer hat er Zugriff auf sämtliche Einstellungen und Funktionen des Systems. Er kann dabei beispielsweise entscheiden, welche Musik bzw. Radiosender an bestimmten Tagen und Zeiten gespielt werden sollen, To-do-Listen erstellen und die nächste Reise planen.
