Das größte Problem von Seat ist nicht die Absatzkrise in Südeuropa oder eine verfehlte Modellpolitik. Seat krankt vor allem daran, dass niemandem klar ist, wofür die Marke steht. Für Leidenschaft, wie der Slogan "Auto emoción“ versprach, bestimmt nicht. Kein Herz schlägt höher wegen eines Seat – Porsche und Lamborghini bringen Herzen zum Rasen.
Früher heizten junge Kerle mit wenig Kohle in aufgemotzten Seat-Schleudern über die Landstraße. Später wurde die Marke als familienfreundlich positioniert. Und den aktuellen Claim "Enjoyneering“ versteht laut einer Studie in Deutschland ohnehin niemand. Das wird in Spanien nicht anders sein. Seat suggeriert weder Ingenieurskunst noch Genuss – Seat gilt als Billigheimer. Schuld ist die VW-Mutter. Mit der Limousine Exeo, die auf einem alten Audi A4 basiert, wurde endgültig klar, dass die Spanier mit veralteter Technik abgespeist werden. Jetzt versucht Seat mit einer Modelloffensive den Befreiungsschlag. Ob er gelingt, darf bezweifelt werden, denn die Marke wird weiterhin als günstige Alternative angepriesen. So kostet das nette Stadtauto Mii weniger als seine baugleichen Brüder VW Up und Škoda Citigo.Dabei geben die neuen Produkte technisch gesehen durchaus Anlass zur Hoffnung. Der Leon hat in einem Vergleichstest sogar den BMW Einser geschlagen – besser geht's nicht. Trotzdem: Kein BMW-Kunde wechselt zu Seat. Stimmen Image und Marketingstrategie nicht, reicht Qualität allein nicht aus. Keiner weiß das besser als der neue -Seat-Chef Jürgen Stackmann.
