Eine GfK-Studie ermittelte, dass im deutschsprachigen Internet über keine Automarke mehr gesprochen wird als über die mit den vier Ringen. De Meo kündigte an, die Kommunikation über soziale Netzwerke künftig sogar noch zu verstärken. Das sei "eine faszinierende Möglichkeit, Innovation voranzutreiben“.
Allein auf Facebook haben die Ingolstädter weltweit mehr als 18 Millionen Fans. Die erste Facebook-Fanseite von Audi startete im Juni 2009 in den USA, mittlerweile verzeichnet der Autohersteller dort mehr als 6,7 Millionen Anhänger. Neben den USA ist vor allem Indien Audi-affin: Dort haben bereits zwei Millionen Menschen den "Like“-Button der Ingolstädter geklickt.Der deutsche Facebook-Auftritt hat knapp 870.000 Fans. "Lokal statt global“ ist hier das Prinzip des Autobauers: "Jeder Markt betreut seine Fanseite selbst“, berichtet Dieter Kopitzki, Leiter Digitales Marketing. "Damit schaffen wir Angebote, die an die kulturellen Eigenschaften eines Landes angepasst sind.“Mittlerweile bieten rund 50 Märkte eine Audi-Seite auf Facebook an.Nicht nur der Hersteller, auch die Händler nutzen zunehmend Social-Media-Angebote, um mit den Kunden in Kontakt zu treten. In Deutschland existieren fast 250 Facebook-Seiten der Audi- Vertriebspartner, sie kommen insgesamt auf 140.000 "Likes“. "Die Strukturen und die Technologien für soziale Netzwerke ändern sich ständig. Das ist ein anhaltender Lernprozess“, so Marketingchef de Meo. "Kommunikation kann sich heute einer nie da gewesenen Vielfalt unterschiedlicher Kanäle bedienen.“ Für Unternehmen komme es darauf an, "die Chancen und Gesetzmäßigkeiten des jeweiligen Mediums zu verinnerlichen“.De Meo will Vorsprung durch Social Media
