Die Corona-Krise hat viele Verlierer hervorgebracht und zahlreiche Branchen in die Krise gestürzt. Die Fahrradbranche zählt nicht dazu. Im Gegenteil. Als während der Lockdowns in vielen Familien der Urlaub ausfiel, stiegen unzählige stattdessen auf das Fahrrad. 2020 wuchs der Fahrradabsatz in Deutschland nach Zahlen des Zweirad-Industrie-Verbands (ZIV) um 16,9 Prozent auf 5,04 Millionen. 2021 gab es zwar wieder einen Rückgang auf 4,7 Millionen; das ist aber immer noch deutlich über dem Vor-Pandemie-Niveau von 4,31 Millionen. ZIV-Chef Burkhard Stork spricht von einem "neuen Level", auf das die Branche gesprungen sei.
Für Automobilzulieferer wie Bosch, Brose, Hirschvogel oder Valeo sind das hervorragende Nachrichten. Denn die haben schon vor Jahren das Geschäft mit E-Bikes für sich entdeckt und liefern Antriebs-und Batteriesysteme, Bedieneinheiten oder Komponenten-Plattformen.
Und gerade der elektrifizierte Teil des Fahrradmarkts hat über die Maßen vom Boom profitiert: Von 2011 bis 2021 stieg die Zahl der verkauften E-Bikes hierzulande von 330.000 auf zwei Millionen. Allein von 2019 auf 2020 sprangen die Verkaufszahlen um 600.000 Räder nach oben. Und ein Ende des Trends ist nicht in Sicht. "In den Fahrrad-Kernmärkten Deutschland, Österreich und Schweiz ist bald jedes zweite verkaufte Fahrrad ein Pedelec - die Niederlande haben dies schon erreicht. Von hier aus entwickeln sich wie in konzentrischen Kreisen neue Märkte", sagt Claus Fleischer, Geschäftsleiter von Bosch eBike Systems. Aktuell seien Frankreich, Großbritannien, Italien und die skandinavischen Länder die größten Wachstumsmärkte. Und auch beim Mechatronikspezialisten Brose ist man überzeugt: "Da schlummert noch enormes Potenzial", sagt André Luhn, Leiter des Produktbereichs Mikromobilität.
