Tipton/Indiana. Bevor die Fabrik den Betrieb aufnahm, hätte der damals hoch defizitäre US-Hersteller im Besitz und unter Führung der Private- Equity-Gesellschaft Cerberus rund 300 Millionen Dollar an Sicherheitsleistungen für Maschinen und Anlagen zahlen müssen. Stattdessen stieg Chrysler im Herbst 2008 aus. Das Scheitern des Projekts verschärfte die Situation des damals ebenfalls schwer angeschlagenen Getriebehersteller Getrag dramatisch. Nur mit einer Bürgschaft des Landes Baden- Württemberg und einem harten Sanierungskonzept konnte sich Getrag retten. Chrysler wiederum flüchtete im April 2009 unter den US-Gläubigerschutz nach Chapter 11. Danach stieg Fiat ein und Sergio Marchionne übernahm die Führung beider Unternehmen. Während die Forderungen von Getrag an „Old Chrysler“ bis heute offengeblieben und mittlerweile abgeschrieben sind, investiert „New Chrysler“ nun in das Werk Tipton Transmission Plant 162 Millionen Dollar: Dort will der Hersteller ab dem ersten Quartal 2014 Neungang- Automatikgetriebe fertigen. Dabei könnten im Endausbau 850 neue Arbeitsplätze entstehen. Der Bezirk Tipton subventioniert das Projekt: Chrysler ist dadurch für zehn Jahre von der Grundsteuer befreit und spart 2,5 Millionen Dollar.
Chrysler kauft zum Schnäppchenpreis
Chrysler streut Salz in alte Wunden von Getrag: Der US-Hersteller startet im Bundesstaat Indiana in einer ehemaligen Getrag- Fabrik die Fertigung von Neungang-Automatikgetrieben, die auf einer Lizenz des Konkurrenten ZF beruhen. Der USHersteller dürfte die Immobilie zum Schnäppchenpreis bekommen: Lokalen Medien zufolge hatte die Immobiliengesellschaft W.W. Reynolds die Fabrik im vergangenen Sommer in Anzeigen für knapp 40 Millionen Dollar angeboten. In das gesamte Werk hatte Getrag mit anderen Zulieferern zusammen fast 500 Millionen Dollar investiert, um für Chrysler ab Ende 2009 Doppelkupplungsgetriebe zu bauen. Angepeilt wurde eine Jahresproduktion von bis zu 700.0000 Einheiten.
