Echter Wettbewerb um den obersten Repräsentanten von Autohäusern und Werkstätten. Mit Burkhard Weller und Arne Joswig bewerben sich zwei Kandidaten um das Amt des Präsidenten des Zentralverbands Deutsches Kraftfahrzeuggewerbe (ZDK). Auf ihrer Versammlung am 14. Juni wählen die ZDK-Mitglieder ihren neuen Präsidenten.
Dabei überrascht die Kandidatur von Weller. Der Chef der Wellergruppe, die im vergangenen Jahr einen Umsatz von rund 1,2 Milliarden machte, ist in der Verbandsorganisation kein Unbekannter: 19 Jahre war er Präsident des Toyota-Händlerverbands und von 2005 bis 2006 war er Mitglied des ZDK-Vorstands und Sprecher der Fabrikatsgruppe.
"ZDK-Präsident Jürgen Karpinski hat mir gesagt, es würde ihn freuen, wenn ich sein Nachfolger werde“ sagte Weller der Automobilwoche am Rande des Autohausgipfels des Instituts für Automobilwirtschaft. "Für mich ist es gegenüber den Herstellern sowie unserem Kfz-Gewerbe der Autorität wegen sehr wichtig, dass der neue ZDK-Präsident ein aktiver Automobilunternehmer ist", begründet Weller in einem Brief an die Kfz-Landesverbände und Mitglieder des ZDK-Vorstands, der Automobilwoche vorliegt, seine Kandidatur.
